Award-Winning Filmmakers Summit Fever Media Present Unfiltered: A Documentary Following Ultra-Runner Renee McGregor's Inspiring Journey
Summit Fever Media, led by award-winning filmmakers Matthew and Ellie Green, is excited to announce the release of Unfiltered, a powerful new documentary that provides a rare look at the life and mission of one of the most celebrated figures in sports.
The film presents an intimate portrait of Renee McGregor, a renowned expert in athlete health and performance, ultra-runner, advocate for women in sport, and trustee of Black Trail Runners. Unfiltered delves into her resilience, determination, and the systemic challenges she faces as a woman over 40 and a person of colour striving for acceptance and equity in the sports world.
Filmed over a year, the documentary follows Renee’s intense preparation for the Lakeland 50, one of the world’s toughest ultra-running events, spanning twice the length of a standard marathon. But beyond her physical journey, Unfiltered offers a revealing glimpse into her past, exploring how her commitment to positive change in sports grew from deeply personal roots.
As she trains for Lakeland 50, Renee confronts painful memories of growing up in Staines, UK, in the 1970s, where she faced racism, sexism, and limited access to green spaces. These experiences sparked her passion to challenge harmful practices in sports, dispel negative stereotypes, and advocate for athlete health and inclusivity.
“We wanted to create a film that shows both the physical and emotional endurance required of athletes,” says Matthew Green. “Renee’s story is one of incredible grit and transformation.”
The documentary also features appearances from influential figures such as Women’s MTB Cross-Country World Champion Evie Richards, UK Athletics Coach Damian Hall, and celebrated activist & ultra-runner Sabrina Pace-Humphreys, each sharing their perspectives on Renee’s pioneering impact.
Supported by outdoor brand Montane and athlete coaching and community training company Clougha, Unfiltered is more than a sports documentary—it’s a blueprint for resilience, recovery, and triumph
